La Rivoluzione Industriale ha avuto luogo nel XVIII e XIX secolo. In quel periodo le emissioni globali di CO2 erano una frazione rispetto a quelle attuali. Nel XVIII secolo le emissioni di anidride carbonica assommavano a 3-7 milioni di tonnellate l’anno. All’inizio del XIX secolo erano gradualmente aumentate fino a raggiungere nel 1850 i 54 milioni di tonnellate l’anno.Attualmente vengono emesse 8000 milioni tonnellate l’anno di CO2.
